My PhD project is focused on the study of the mechanisms responsible for the development of diabetic microvascular disease, in particular diabetic retinopathy. I am currently investigating the possible role of microvesicles derived from the mesenchymal stem cells in the destabilization of the interactions between pericytes and endothelial cells in the retinal capillaries.
